Quick Weekend Getaway in La Union, PH

With no proper planning and just waiting for our colleague’s final decision for his son’s baptism, we’re glad that that quick weekend getaway in La Union push thru without any problem. Now, I believe that unplanned trips are the ones that really push thru. Ha-ha.

It was rainy Saturday morning of 15th of November. I still have to go to work since I still have my morning shift. Good thing, before my shift ends, the rain stopped. Otherwise, Y will not be coming with us. Due to known traffic during Saturdays, Y arrived late. It was 4:45pm already when we left the office. Anyways, I already called the Partas Transit Cubao Terminal regarding the schedule of their trip and we will taking the 6pm trip. From the office, we took uber’s black car for easy peasy and comfortable travel from Makati to Cubao (to those who want to try it, just download the uber app, register and use my promotion code “uberthedailyposh” to get P300 credit/free ride). We’re 30 minutes early, hooray! Bought a one-way ticket which was amounting to P436 from Manila to San Fernando, La Union.

The moment we sat down to our designated seat numbers, the three of us already prepared for our sleeping adventures while on our way to La Union. It was a smooth ride though a long one. We arrived at San Fernando, La Union at 12:45am, almost 7 hours land travel. But if you’re going there with own car, it will be more or less 4 hours only using NLEX – SCTEX – TPLEX route. N was already in the terminal waiting for us. We went straight to his Aunt’s house who will accommodate us for a night, took a rest to be prepared for the big day.

St. William, the Hermit Church

Baptismal ceremony in the province could be way different in Manila. There’s a registration, followed by seminars for parents and godparents on which I really didn’t understand because the speaker spoke in their dialect and then the baptismal ceremony wherein baptismal certificate was already prepared. The most exciting part was the reception. It was held in Normi2’s Beachfront Resort located at Taboc Bridge, San Juan, La Union. It was on the far-end of the beach and also far away from the crowded San Juan beach were the surfers at. Though the waves were big and it is not advisable for swimming. Normi2s beach resort was kind of underrated in terms of photos but I was not able to see their rooms so I can’t really attest to that.

Meanwhile, the resort has 2 separate swimming pools. They have a lap pool, and another pool with kid’s swimming pool. Well, ideal for family and those who want to celebrate their life’s moment privately. Room price starts at P1500+ which is good for 3 with breakfast and Wi-Fi. But, if you’re just going to have a day tour trip like we did, entrance fee is at only P150 per head and minimal corkage fee if you’re bringing food. But if you’re going to rent a cottage, corkage is free. And oh, what I really love in this place is their food in a boodle style, the one that is good for 6-8 persons is only at P1100 but in reality it is good for 10 persons. So, they have big food servings.

To sum it up, it was my first time in La Union and I am looking forward to visit it again because I know already how to get there via public transportation. I really wanted to try surfing thus, another trip is already on my bucket list. Of course, we also see how the sun set. It was romantic and serene and rejuvenating.
