Travelogue: Cape Bolinao Lighthouse at Bolinao, Pangasinan, PH

Due to new schedule at work I see to it that every weekend I have something to do, whether it is blog-related event or personal event that most of the time, spent thru travelling. I admit, planning a getaway with a big group is somehow challenging as each one has its own preferences and things-to-consider. However, I am still proud and happy with my team that despite our differences when it comes to travelling we tend to unite for the sake of friendship and exploring places and most of all, to unwind! Yeah, life is good when we are having fun and great when it shared with family and friends. For this trip, it shared with friends.

Cape Bolinao Lighthouse

My trip to Pangasinan wouldn't be complete without going to Bolinao. Even though it is 2-hr drive away from our friend’s place in Lingayen we to see it that we will visit this place. Thus on our first day, we took the opportunity to roam around Lingayen before lunch (I’ll post about it on a separate blog post, stay tuned) and headed to Bolinao right after we had our hearty and sumptuous, the Lingayen way, lunch!

The Cape Bolinao Lighthouse at Patar, Bolinao, Pangasinan, PH rises and proudly standing at about 351 feet or 107 meters above sea level atop Punta Piedra Point, a towering hill of solid rock which is the sharp point of Cape Bolinao itself. It was built by the Americans in 1903 on 351 feet high promontory at the western part of Cape Bolinao. It was one of the scenery tourists, like me and my friends, visit as it serves as tourism’s icon. Because of its level, the view was awesome and picturesque giving a panoramic view of a portion of the 1,269 hectare Cape Bolinao Dendro Thermal Ipil-Ipil Plantation on a land area where archaeological excavations have revealed relics from the 14th to the 15th centuries.

Filipino, British and American engineers constructed the lighthouse in 1905.The winding stairway has 6 platforms with 20 steps or rungs for a total of 120 steps plus 14 more to the illumination room, or an over-all total of 134 steps. The building next to it was happened to be the administration building and now it serves as the ruins where the beauty of its history lies beneath. No more beacon lights glow; the ships are not guided anymore, but still, the lighthouse standing proudly to tell its wonderful antiquity.

What I like on this one compared to the lighthouse I've visited in Ilocos and Zambales because it is less creepy. Well, I think lighthouses have own magical thing to stands out. By the way, we didn't have a chance to enter inside the lighthouse because the door is locked. Thus, the group and I stayed there for a little while, for like 30 minutes, to chat with each one, starts telling stories, have some photo ops and appreciate its beauty.
